What is a dropshipping agent?
A dropshipping agent is someone in the country your goods are made in who takes over the supplier side of your business. They find and vet the factory, negotiate the price, hold your stock, pack each order and ship it to your customer with your branding on it.
The difference from a marketplace supplier is that an agent is acting for you. A marketplace listing sells the same product to you and to your competitor at the same price with the same packaging and the same fifteen-day shipping. An agent buys at factory price on your behalf, holds the stock so the order ships the day it comes in, and can change the packaging because the relationship is yours, not the platform's.

How to tell a real agent from a reseller
The reseller model is simple: take your order, buy the item on a marketplace, have it shipped to your customer, keep the difference. It works until a product goes out of stock, a batch arrives defective, or a customer asks why the packaging says something else. At that point there is no factory relationship to fall back on, because there never was one.
Five questions separate them, and none of them require you to know anything technical:
A reseller cannot, because there is no relationship to show.
Real quotes have tiers. A single flat price is a marketplace price with a markup on it.
If the answer is “we order it when you sell it”, that is a reseller, whatever the title says.
The answer should describe an inspection step that catches it before it ships, not a refund after.
A name, or a queue. This is the one that shows up every week once you are live.
What a dropshipping agent costs
There is no standard rate, and any page quoting one is guessing. What you should expect to see broken out is the unit price, the fulfilment cost per order, and the shipping cost per destination — three numbers, not one bundled figure that hides where the margin is going.
Sourcing is quoted per project against what the product and the volume actually require. We would rather publish nothing than publish a percentage that turns out not to apply to your product, which is what most of the pages ranking for this question have done.
